I and friends have gone to the cemetery to help and prop up fallen stones, pull weeds and the like. I do believe the site is profoundly haunted. In the 60's, when I was very young, I remember hearing some friends of my brother talk about digging up a grave and looking at the body, This was apparently done more than once and it is my understanding that most of the bodies buried there have been moved and that very few actual graves remain. I have extensively explored the area. Just beyond the cemetary about 50 yards in the woods to the side of the plot can be found the remains of a very old stone and concrete foundation. It takes some looking for and is overgrown but I can always find it. Others who know the area very well are surprized when I show them this foundation. Some who I have shown tell me that it is consistant with the manner in which old farm houses in the area were built. The foundation is thought to date to about the 1850's or 60's. The area of the cemetery that is the most haunted is the side along the chain link fence that is to the far right as you are looking at the front entrance. I was exploring there one day in August - it was very hot so I went to this shade area to the side where it slopes steeply downward to the fence. I became disoriented and was suddenly struck with terror as if I was being chased by something. I stood still for a moment and found myself standing in a cold spot that was so clammy it was actually freezing. Then all of a sudden, a hole opened up under me and I found myself standing about up to my waist in an old unmarked grave. The moldy goop I was standing in was clearly what remained of a wooden coffin and it's occupant. I felt like I was in quicksand and it was difficult to get out. I would like to see this place resored to some dignity. There is a profound sadness that comes over me whenever I visit. It has been seven yoears since my last visit. There are some fine old wild rose bushes there and I prune them from time to time to keep them blooming. I'm due to go back and prune the roses again.

This is from the preservation society trying to keep it from disappearing all together...

Graves within: 150
Oldest grave: 1844
Newest grave: 1989

Inventory: Unsure
Records location:
Owner:
Condition: Cemetery in danger of destruction
Encroachment
Removed Headstones
Overgrown-ground cover
Apathy
Broken Headstones
Buried Headstones
Disintegrating Headstones
Fallen Headstones
Previous contacts: We are currently organizing an effort to find answers. At the moment the cemetery is a sore subject with all officials involved. They want it to disappear. This is an emergency! I have just learned that there are approx. 150 people buried in this one acre sight that is about to be swallowed by water. We know that there are only about 20 headstones left though. Many are to be found on the bottom of the lagoon behind it. The last body was buried in 1965. The last ashes were buried in 1989.
Work Status: Planning stages
I wanted to let you know that the Restoration has a new web address at. Things are moving along slowly yet we have accomplished quite a bit of research on those buried at the cemetery. Sadly most records are missing and the families are proving difficult to contact. We are hoping that more volunteers will come forward soon. A new small sign will also be placed at the cemetery in the coming weeks until the restoration is fully underway.
